I believe that with hard work and dedication you can do anything you want to do. I know that with my hard-working ethic and commitment, I can prove myself as a worthy candidate for the media industry and I am excited at the prospect of being a part of it.

My first experience of working in the media began in secondary school where I completed a weeks work experience at my local newspaper, The Gazette. This gave me first hand experience of working in a newspaper house amongst other experience journalists. I was able to cover local stories about the history of our town, as well as a school sports day; a story which was published in the paper that week. This only fed my enthusiasm for the industry and encouraged me to study media at university, although I still wasn't sure which area of the media I would like to pursue a career in.

Gaining knowledge through experiences is something that is very important to me. I feel that learning about different cultures, different ways of living, and experiencing different things can help you grow as a person and develop your knowledge. In 2010, I travelled to India for two weeks where I partook in a community project at a primary school, as well as a five day trek up the Himalayas. This was an amazing experience which taught me about working as a team, working with people from all different ages, leadership and communication.

In my secondary school I was elected to be Head Girl. This was a huge responsibility but one that I could take head on, and one that I am proud to have had. As Head Girl, I had to be decisive and responsible for a lot of choices that concerned my year group, therefore I had to maintain a fair and friendly attitude but also be a worthy leader. Throughout the year I had to lead a team in raising money for our overall Leaver's Dinner at the end of the year. This involved making decisions and delegating effectively, something which was a challenge, however payed off in the end at resulted in a successful end of year dinner.

I have always been keen to participate in sports such as swimming, running, skiing and netball. As soon as I learnt to swim, I joined my local swimming club and from then on enjoyed training three times a week and regularly competing in friendlies, county and national galas. This taught me to work hard and about dedication as competition was difficult, therefore I had to work hard to get the best results. Competing in sports has also taught me valuable lessons in supporting my team and being an equal member of the squad. I loved having something to work towards and improve at, however I had to postpone my love for sports when I came to university in Birmingham.

Being a media student at Birmingham City University means that I always have to be on top of the news and know what is going on in the world. I do this by listening or watching to the news in the morning or evening, and also by following news sites on social networking sites such as Twitter. This means that I can always check the news whenever I want. I also find that reading newspapers and magazines helps to keep me on track with current events and news, and as I love reading, I find this an enjoyable task. I have always liked getting lost in a book and my bedroom is full of books that I have read throughout my life so far. My favourite authors include Sophie Kinsella, Malorie Blackman and Cecelia Ahern.
